Dola Basu Singh

I love stories. Give me a make-believe world and I will probe the foundation, inspect the interiors, pore over the façade, and tell you how to tell your story the best you can.

I have been editing fiction since 2015. I have edited more than a hundred books (and counting!), helped many authors win a publishing contract, and launched Indie writers into bestseller lists. In the recent years, five of my clients have won the Amazon KDP Pen to Publish contest for short- and long-form. I have won Editor’s Choice awards from literary reviews in the sub-continent and India for my short stories. Apart from running my freelance editorial business, I also work as an Associate Editor at The Darling Axe.

I believe that editing is a crucial skill to learn for all writers, and that learning to edit shouldn’t be restricted to only a privileged few, but be accessible to all. I have published a book, Editing Bootcamp – I, to help writers self-edit their work before submitting it, and am writing the second part. I have also published my first fiction, Cupcake Conundrum, a cozy mystery set in India.

I’ve volunteered as a Municipal Liaison of Asia::India region for NaNoWriMo till recently. I have also led the social media content team for a major political party in India in the past.

I’m a professionally trained fiction editor, and a member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP), UK. I am proficient in four languages and live in Punjab, India, with my family and other animals—eight people and four dogs.
